Post Thanksgiving Thoughts

So what’s the good word? I’m sitting here watching a football game, and have been doing one of two things since Thursday, eating or watching football.  And yes, they are two things that I am thankful for. I am also thankful for my family, my friends, my home, and all the other many blessings that are there but I’m too busy to take notice of. It’s not that I am not as thankful for them, it’s just that when life starts going, they are more difficult to recognize.  But why is it that we need ONE day to give thanks? Aren’t we told in the Bible to give thanks for all we do in all we do?  I don’t know about you, but outside the holidays I sometimes get into the habit of praying for things that are going badly or for something I DON’T have.  Too often, we see that conversation with God, if we are even having one with God, as a moment to put God in God’s place. Making sure God knows that life isn’t going well and we need God’s help. As if God doesn’t know! I am reminded though of how I need to give God thanks FIRST and ALWAYS for the blessings God has given me.  Why? Because I believe it can serve as a reminder for us of the biggest theme in all the Bible, God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. How can I this holiday season turn those blessings into blessings for others instead of worrying about what more I want? So I have to wonder, is Thanksgiving really about that, giving thanks, or is it more of a holiday involving turkey?
